Sean Martin is an “in the moment” kind of guy, never one to be blinded by glitz and glamour. Instead, the photographer looks for the beauty of an unnoticed scene, coaxing meaning from the menial. This skill has brought him appreciation and accolades as the man with the magic for “the moments in between.”
While Sean has always been creative, his path to photography was never crystal clear. The Angeleno grew up directing amateur skate videos with his brothers, and graduated from high school in 2004.
After practicing street photography and small commercial work, Sean’s big break finally happened in 2016, when he was given the opportunity to shoot lookbooks and hero images for a clothing company. The experience caused Sean to fall headfirst into his passion, quitting his day job to snap his sister and brother-in-law, the musicians of Us the Duo, on their world tour. Since then, he’s worked with a number of artists and company brands, creating lookbooks, editorials, and the like.
He’s been able to embrace the medium for what it is, finding value in the hands-on process of developing images.“From shooting to processing and editing, I’ve found myself to care more about all aspects of making a photo when shooting film,” Sean explained.
It’s easy to take everything for granted, constantly looking to the future without noticing what beauty lies right before our eyes. Luckily, we have Sean Martin to remind us that the most important moments are the ones we appreciate. If there’s one moment we don’t want to miss, it’s Sean Martin’s— we’ll be watching him for a long time.
